It is not to be confused with its bigger brother sharing the same name in the Wind River Range. Jackson Peak is located in the northern Boise Mountains E of Grimes Creek, NE of New Centerville, and NNW of both Pilot Peak and Peak 7905 in the Boise National Forest. The trail is an easy lollipop loop hike you can see the Crater Lake Rim and Mount Thielsen to the north, catch a glimpse of Mount McLoughlin to the northeast, look right out at Mount Shasta, Pilot Rock, and Mount Ashland to the south, and west to Wagner Butte and Grayback Mountain. Starting at the Death Canyon trailhead, you hike to the Phelps Lake overlook. The trail starts at the Curtis Canyon parking area, which is about 9.5 miles down the Elk Refuge Road.
