The coordinator can also help you if you need information about your case, assistance in applying for criminal injury compensation or referrals to community victim service programs. The victim advocate may be designated by State Attorney's Office, Sheriff's Office, or Municipal Police Department, or one representative from a not-for-profit victim services organization, including, but not limited to, rape crisis centers, domestic violence advocacy groups, and alcohol abuse or substance abuse groups . A Victim Advocate in the State Attorney’s Office is a specialized victim/witness counselor who acts as a liaison between the State Attorney’s Office and victims of crime and their families, where the charges being investigated and/or prosecuted by this agency involve sexual or physical abuse or homicide. Our Victim Advocates, often working in tandem with our non-profit and law enforcement advocacy partners, can assist you through the process, answer your questions, and direct you to appropriate agencies for support.
